An urban creative studio fostering design, culture and community.

ABOUT MAISON BERKSHIRE

Maison Berkshire, the first Jonathan Prince Studio in Europe has opened in Brussels, Belgium. Prince and Manasseh wished to extend the spirit of their rural New England space to an elegant, city-home and design studio in which to showcase new work and inspire new connections within an urban context.

Maison Berkshire is located in the historic “Square du Bois”, (“Bos Square”, in Flemish), a discreet private square in Brussels owned by the residents of its buildings bordering the Bois de la Cambre. Designed in 1913 to replace a nineteenth century villa, the first houses, completed in 1915, were designed by the art nouveau architect Léon Govaerts, with construction continuing into the 1930s. A locked gate, installed in 2000, preserves the tranquillity of this exclusive enclave.

THE SAlON

Upon entering Maison Berkshire, a modern handsome dining room, enveloped by oak-lined book shelves, is an immediate reminder that this is first a home and the importance that the couple places on gathering their family and community around the table. Further in, a light-filled salon showcases a thoughtful curation of sculptural works. Together the pieces narrate Prince’s decades-long exploration of materials - from steel and bronze to cast glass - and are presented here in notable contrast to the monumental sculptures that have defined the studio’s work.

Jonathan Prince Design

The opening of Maison Berkshire also coincides with the introduction of Jonathan Prince Design. This marks the first time Jonathan has explored functional sculpture and collaborated with external fabricators. Until now, the studio’s work has primarily focused on creating singular, often monumental sculptures—one-off pieces commissioned and fabricated for individual collectors or institutions. The desire to share these creations more broadly has inspired Prince to embrace limited-edition design. The first capsule collection, a series of functional sculptures in bronze and cast glass, takes inspiration from the work of American glass artist Howard Ben Tre.

The HBT Collection represents a new phase in Jonathan Prince’s artistic journey, one that experiments with scale and challenges the boundaries between artist and designer. Through this collection, the studio’s expertise has been applied to create spectacular functional objects—cabinets, consoles, tables, and lamps—that seamlessly merge form and function.
