A Journey through Berkshire House, where ART, DESign AND NATURE UNITE.
History of Berkshire House
Berkshire House began its life as a dairy farm around 1902 and remained a working farm for four decades before conversion to a retreat and meeting location for the young United Nations.
By the 1950’s it had reprised its role as a farm hosting herds of Argentine cattle across its 500 acres expanse. By 1970, the area was given over to sheep farming and a sizable wool factory built on site. The factory’s owner however was unable to keep up with payments and the banks foreclosed, breaking up the farm forever.
THE HOUSE
Combining modernity and tradition, Jonathan Prince’s restoration honors Berkshire House’s history and the studio’s design philosophy.
THE GARDEN
The sculpture garden creates an enhanced experience with the works. Perception of surface and light change through the day and seasons, constantly creating new harmonies.
EVENTS
Central to the heart of Berkshire House's philosophy is the curation of immersive experiences that foster unique connections with the exhibited artwork and spark inspiring conversations. From premiering Joep Beving's composed music inspired by Prince's sculpture, to thought-provoking discussions over fine gastronomy, each event is designed to create memorable moments of engagement.
THE GALLERY
An extension of the studio, the gallery brings finished works together in aesthetic conversation. Its three distinct staging areas create unique and immersive visual experiences.
THE STUDIO
The Studio is a state-of-the-art workshop where all Jonathan Prince works are conceived and fabricated. For over 20 years, Prince has been creating thought-provoking artworks for both private and public collection that explore the intrinsic relationship between material and form.
