SPECTRUM

In an exciting partnership, Jonathan Prince and Czech artist Zdeněk Lhotský launched Spectrum at Berkshire House, bridging artistic disciplines through cast glass. Originally conceived in steel at Prince’s Massachusetts studio, the series captured Lhotský’s attention for its potential to embody the alchemical essence of the color spectrum in glass. Lhotský, leader of the world’s oldest cast glass studio, brings unparalleled expertise to the collaboration. Each Spectrumcube is cast in a unique, hand-carved mold, ensuring that no two cubes are identical, even within the limited edition of 100 per colour. This approach merges the precision of editioned work with the individuality of handcrafted artistry. Marking a historic moment for glass as a medium, Spectrum blends Prince’s fresh perspective with Lhotský’s mastery, pushing the boundaries of contemporary glass art. The series represents a renaissance for the medium, rooted in the traditions of Lhotský Studio, renowned for its innovative techniques and monumental works like the 4.5-ton crystal glass sarcophagus for the Queen of Denmark.

The May 2024 launch unveiled a special edition of the series in collaboration with the grantLOVE project—a philanthropic art initiative founded by artist Alexandra Grant—featuring the LOVE Cube. The event also continued Berkshire House’s concert series with an exceptional performance by Dutch pianist Matteo Myderwyk.
